Filler, Alleycat

I sooooo need to bring Susan into the City this Spring / Summer for an afternoon of playing in traffic. I won't be satisfied until I've ridden through Times Square at speed.

How many traffic violation did you count? At least 9 times running a traffic light, a dozen times failing to yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk, 4 times going to wrong way down a one way street, not to mention the general recklessness weaving in and out of traffic, holding onto vehicles and such.

Idiots. No wonder I have to fear for my life when I'm obeying the law biking in traffic.

no question the decisionmaking is suspect, and the conduct, especially with regard to pedestrians, is regrettable. but i also think context has to be considered. if we're going to start complaining about people breaking the rules, new york city's no place to set up shop. the roads in manhattan are a freeforall, and no one, cars, bikes, pedestrians, even approaches obeying the law. because it's such a slow city, due to traffic congestion, the only thing i think is pretty bad is the pedestrian interactions. with regard to the cars and buses, the riders mostly just endanger themselves.

anyway, even if i approved (and i don't really), i'd never be able to muster the balls to ride like that. i certainly have my moments, but that's something else entirely.
