I am new in town since October. Is it okay to carry a map along, or is that considered maybe a little unsporting? I can't keep my Hazelwood straight from my Homestead from my Homewood, much less get from one to the other on my bike.

Hi Matt --

Maps are absolutely normal. I've lived here eight years, and know the city pretty well, and ride with people who know the city better than I as often as not. Nevertheless, we all usually show up pretty close to an hour before registration, get our manifests, and study our maps until we figure out what we want to do.

In a city as utterly bizarre as Pittsburgh, it would be pretty unsporting not to allow maps, especially since many alleycats touch pretty obscure locations that even die-hard Pittsburghers would have trouble locating off the cuff.

Hope to see you there.

That's a relief. Dang, though, I think I'm going to be out of town that weekend after all. Next time, I hope.
